Welcome to my October reading wrap-up – I still have 4 reviews to finish and post so if a book has a star (*) next to it – the review is still coming:
Total Books Read this month: 12
Of these: 1 was a Library Book, 6 were E-books and 5 were from my physical TBR pile
Then: I discovered 7 ‘new for me’ authors (i.e. the first time I have read their work).
And: only 2 of the books read were written by Australian authors, my lowest amount this year I think.
Best Book of the month:
I read a lot of really good books this month – not one dud amongst them, but there was nothing outstanding enough to give an A to.
THE SHADOWY HORSES by Susanna Kearsley and MURDER AND MENDELSSOHN by Kerry Greenwood are definitely honourable mentions as is ON THE RIM by Florida Ann Town. There can only be one winner though and this month that goes to THE SHADOWY HORSES by Susanna Kearsley.
Least Favourite Book:
As usual I must explain that I say ‘least favourite’ because my lowest ‘score’ still means it is very readable, but for one reason or another I found it a bit of struggle to stay focused and finish. None of the books this month got a really low score so as with my ‘best of’ my ‘least favourite’ is hard to select.
THE NIGHT GUEST by Fiona McFarlane disappointed me the most out of my ‘C’ reads, the ending just didn’t work well for me – I felt that I had missed out on something but didn’t know what – and one major loose end that left me scratching my head.
As usual I read a wide range of genre this month, I find I am very unlikely to suffer reader’s block if I don’t become one-eyed about any particular genre. Main genres read this month were General Fiction, Women’s Fiction Romance, Paranormal, Historical, mystery, and Young Adult then some were a blend of a few of them.
My Australian authors this month were Kerry Greenwood and Fiona McFarlane. Fiona McFarlane is also a ‘new for me’ author. Just to clarify an Australian author is defined by me as either an Australian born author no matter where they live and write in the world now, or an author who currently lives and writes in Australia even though they may have been born elsewhere.
Finally, the 6 ‘new for me’ authors this month were my Aussie author Fiona McFarlane along with Kiera Cass, Susanna Kearsley, Florida Ann Town, Juliet Blackwell and Emma Jane Holloway. I would happily read any of these authors again.
So without further delay – here is the list of books that I read during October:
