Welcome to my August reading wrap-up:
Total Books Read this month: 13
Of these: 4 were Library Books, 8 were E-books and 1 was from my physical TBR pile
Then: I discovered 9 ‘new for me’ authors i.e. the first time I have read their work.
And: 5 of the books read were written by Australian authors.
Best Book of the month:
I only had one ‘A’ read this month and I highly recommend it if you like historical stories with time travel thrown in. THE RIVER OF NO RETURN by Bee Ridgway was a page turner that had everything in it – a multi-genre story with a wonderful blend of science fiction, history, adventure, intrigue, comedy and romance.
Least Favourite Book(s):
As usual I must explain that I say ‘least favourite’ because my lowest ‘score’ still means it is very readable, but for one reason or another I found it a bit of struggle to stay focused and finish. I had two that fit these criteria in August: THE DARWIN ELEVATOR by Jason M. Hough and THE PARIS WIFE by Paula McLain. Looking at which one of these is to be my least favourite I have to say that I am not a big fan of Science Fiction at the best of times – so for me to even finish one is a great achievement – so my least favourite winner is THE PARIS WIFE by Paula McLain.
I read a wide range of genre this month – Historical, Science Fiction, Chick lit, Romance, Non-fiction, Women’s Fiction and Mysteries. In fact the only genre I didn’t cover was the paranormal one which is very unusual for me.
My Australian authors this month were Monica McInerney, Ilsa Evans, John Marsden, Jacinta Halloran and Kendall Talbot. Kendall and Jacinta are also ‘new for me’ authors. An Australian author is defined by me as either an Australian born author no matter where they live and write in the world now, or an author who currently lives and writes in Australia even though they may have been born elsewhere.
Finally, the 9 ‘new for me’ authors this month were my Aussie authors Kendall Talbot and Jacinta Halloran along with Paula McLain, Bee Ridgway, Jason M. Hough, Joni Folger, Krista Davis, Joshua Muggleton and Emily Joy. Bree Ridgway and Jacinta Halloran went straight on my buy any book they release list, but other than Paula McLain and Jason M. Hough I would gladly read these authors again.
