Title: Phreddie and the Ghostly Underpants: a story to eat with a mango
Author: Jackie French
Another spell-binding and spooky story starring Phredde, a fractious but fun-loving phaery, Bruce, a mosquito-eating frog, and Pru, an everyday-normal school girl – except that she lives in a fairy castle, keeps pet piranhas, has a werewolf for a brother and a vampire for a teacher. AND EXCEPT that now she has just inherited her very own mansion and is the envy of ALL her friends. Is this too good to be true? Is there something suspicous about Mr Nahsti, the solicitor? Why do Phredde and Bruce, Pru′s best friends in the world, keep sneaking off to Phaeryland without her? And most important: who keeps stealing Pru′s underpants? A hair-raising, spine-tingling GHOSTLY tale of phaeries, underpants and adventure!
I have read quite a few Jackie French books, but hadn’t heard of the Phredde series, which is a shame because if Phreddie and the Ghostly Underpants is anything to go by it is a must have series for your children. There are seven adventures prior to this one and this is the final one. To be honest I only picked it because it had the word mango in the title and I needed a title with a summer fruit in it 🙂 Phredde was not front and centre in the story – Pru had to face a foe by herself, well she was the only live person anyway 🙂 Her new home, should she pass the test, is amazing – any food you desire pops up on the table, bedroom decor changes if you think of something you want changed – even the whole colour scheme should you not like pink! Pru thinks Phredde and Bruce are just pinging things up as phaeries are wont to do. But they swear they aren’t and they definitely aren’t pinching Pru’s underpants! A wonderful adventure and lots of fun. Recommend this for the child in your life – or your own inner child 🙂
Rating: B – Great. I really enjoyed reading it.
