Title: Thin Rich Bitches
Author: Janet Eve Josselyn
Genre: Chick Lit
The Blurb: From the back cover.
Leaving her cheating husband in Boston with the paralegal he impregnated, Pippin Snowe and her son move to a ramshackle farmhouse in the exclusive community of Dover, Massachusetts. Pippin finds employment with a local architect, designing kitchen renovations for wealthy Dover women who treat her as they treat the rest of the hired help.
My Thoughts: THIN RICH BITCHES is a debut novel that pokes fun at the rich wives and mothers who don’t need to work so in order to beat boredom they spend lots of money trying to stay beautiful, control the lives of their children, animals, lovers and husbands, and a lot of their time trying to outdo each other and be top of the social scene. While these women are from the USA, I think they typify many of the wealthy women found in most cultures. In fact I have met one or two of tem myself in my hometown! Pippin is scraping to make bottom of the social heap but eventually finds a way to stop being treated as something that has just slid out of the primeval swamp and start being the most sought after person in Dover. How she gets there is the focus of this fun romp. There is a laugh on every page, and I loved the Christmas party and the “bite me” girl.
“…The gals in the kitchen looked less than thrilled to see the food arrive, despite the fact they’d been hired to heat and serve it. I didn’t think the “BITE ME” tee- shirt that one of them wore was exactly “appropriate holiday serving attire.” Call me old fashioned…”
My only complaint is that the solution to Pippin’s woes took a long time coming, but when it did was brilliant. I loved her relationships with her animals, her drugged up non-English speaking housekeeper, and her handyman. The ending was a bit up in the air and I did wonder if maybe there was going to be a sequel? If there is, then I wouldn’t hesitate to get my hands on it and see what happens next.
Rating: C = Average – still very readable and enjoyable
